Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to dinosaurs.wiki! We are committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you visit and interact with our website. By accessing or using dinosaurs.wiki, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

General Use

Dinosaurs.wiki does not require user accounts or logins for general use of the website, and therefore we do not collect personal data from casual visitors.

Should additional features such as forums or member sections be introduced in the future, these will have clearly marked, separate privacy policies addressing their specific data practices.

Storage/Cookies

Unlike traditional permanent cookies, our site gives you full control over what is kept in your browser. We use two types of storage - session storage and local storage - only when you opt in:

  • Session Storage
    Temporary data (for example, your chosen input or display units) is held only for the duration of your visit. When you fill in forms on‑page you will see a checkbox labeled “Remember this choice”; checking it enables session storage for that setting. All session data is automatically deleted when you close the browser tab or window, and you can also clear it at any time on the Settings page.
  • Local Storage
    Keeps preferences indefinitely on your device until you decide to remove them. Unlike cookies, local storage data is never sent to our servers with each request - it remains only in your browser. Note that local storage does not offer built‑in expiration or TTL, so if you wish to clear these long‑term settings, you can do so on the Settings page at any time.

All storage is entirely client‑side - nothing is transmitted to our servers or any third party unless you explicitly submit form data (for example when contacting us) - but even then, session or local storage data will not be transmitted unless necessary and it will be made clear to you before you submit. You can manage or remove all saved preferences on the Settings page at any time.

Speculation Rules

Dinosaurs.wiki uses "speculation rules" to ensure the fastest possible browsing experience. These rules help your browser anticipate and load resources (like pages or images) ahead of time, similar to features used by services such as Google Search.

Simply put, when your browser thinks you might visit another page on dinosaurs.wiki next, it loads parts of that page in advance. This means when you actually click the link, the page loads more quickly. Importantly, these speculation rules only apply to resources on our own website and do not involve sending data to any external sites.

Additionally, as an extra precaution, our speculation rules explicitly set:

requires   = ['anonymous-client-ip-when-cross-origin'];
referrer_policy   = 'no-referrer';

This ensures no identifying information or referrer details are shared inadvertently, aligning with best practices used by major websites like Google.

Contact Form

If you choose to use the "Contact Us" form, any information you enter will be directly sent to our administrators. To maintain community standards and prevent abuse, messages submitted through this form are subjected to basic profanity and abuse filters. Currently, these filters operate locally on our server and do not require sending your data externally.

However, we may implement more sophisticated, cloud-based filtering solutions in the future. If so, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.

We strongly advise you to avoid including sensitive or personal information when contacting us.

Donations

Dinosaurs.wiki may accept donations via PayPal. Any donation made through PayPal is subject to PayPal's own privacy policy, which you should review here.

Third-Party Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)

We use third-party Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) - specifically bunny.net - to enhance website performance, reliability, and security, and to avoid exceeding hosting storage or bandwidth limits. These CDNs deliver essential website components such as JavaScript, images, CSS, and HTML content.

The CDN operates according to their own privacy policy, which you are encouraged to review: bunny.net Privacy Policy

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted clearly on our website, and we recommend reviewing this policy periodically.
